| Sim reregistration exercise extended to….. |
The sim reregistration practice has been stretched out to September for the last time.
Talking at a press instructions on Sunday 31st July, 2022, the Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu, said that the expansion followed a few interview with the business after the activity was confronted with difficulties.
"Upon meeting with the business and considering the difficulties listed above, I have hesitantly chosen to concede a restrictive expansion. The program will be stretched out to 30th September to end on the commemoration of its initiation."
"That will give us one entire year of SIM enlistment. It will be evaluated toward the finish of this current month and any SIM that has not been completely enrolled toward the finish of August will be banned from getting specific administrations including voice and information administrations," she said.
The Minister noticed that in spite of the difficulties with the Ghana Card - long lines among others - numerous Ghanaians wouldn't enroll their sims after the cutoff time was broadened.
Hence, this expansion of the cutoff time is the last and last one.
"The measurements demonstrate that there was a 90% drop in sim reregistration, when the primary cutoff time was reached out on 21st March. Until seven days prior there were no prompts, individuals began going to enroll when they understood that cutoff time was impending in the wake of falling asleep."
In an examination by JoyNews, around 7.9m Ghanaians were supposed to lose SIM cards by the cutoff time.
As per information contained in the 2021 Population and Housing Census, there are 19.9 million Ghanaians who are 15 years and more established.
Out of this, main 15.7 million of them have had the option to get their Ghana Card per the data given by the Finance Minister during the introduction of the 2022 mid-year spending plan audit.
Of the 19.9 million, only 12 million, as indicated by the Minister of Communications and Digitisation, have had the option to completely enroll their SIM cards.
Individuals approached the public authority and the Communications Ministry to expand the cutoff time of the SIM card re-enrollment work out.
In the mean time, the Communications Minister has declared that a self sim enlistment application will be sent off the following week to assist with peopling register in the solace of their homes.
